Yep. That's why, if mermaids were real, they'd look like a cross between a human and whale.

Edit: To be more detailed, they'd have a tail fin with a slender, hairless body, and they'd be barrel-chested to be able to store hours worth of air in their lungs.

They'd have hands, but they'd probably also have long, webbed fingers.
