Magic made me love the NBA

He's the reason I picked up a basketball.

I can relate to this, because thats what Kobe was for me. Got a SI mag in '99 with a fold-out poster of him doing a reverse dunk, and the image of it just looked so cool to me. Like the coolest fukking thing ever. And I started watching the game and stanning him...

My whole fam was Laker fans too...its cool to reminisce on those little memories that made childhood enjoyable. Kobe leading me to basketball is one of them...

I wish I got to see Magic but I have a deep, deep appreciation for his work. I'll never forget Costas saying that his greatness has gotten lost with time; saying while Prime Mike was probably the best player in basketball, in real time no one thought he was that much (thats a direct Costas quote) better than Magic or Bird and there was definitely a debate on some LeBron vs KD/Steph shyt...

There are quite a few players who're better passers than Magic.

A lot of his passes look better than they actually are because of the theatrics of exaggerating his movements; if he didn't look the other way, or kick up his leg, or swing around his arm, folks would be less inclined to praise his passing. He's more unrivaled in terms of entertainment and putting on a show, than his actual passing ability. Plus, even though this board doesn't like admitting it, he came up during a time where there was little-to-no defensive framework, so he was able to throw these passes without much interference during the play.
