My mom was a fly Brooklyb B girl in the 80s during the rise of hip hop and my pops was a DJ
So not only did I grow up on real hip hop, their friends were Queen Latifah, Big Daddy Kane, Spoonie G and others. I have a picture with Kane holding me as a baby and Latifah.
They would party at Paradise Garage, Club Sensations, Fun House NY and all the others. When My dad came home from work in his early days at transit, I would listen to his mixes and he'd rock out all morning. Some people talk about classic hip hop, but they have no idea about the electro scene that was huge right before hip hop took off. I love listening to classic mixes of that real dance early house shyt. It just makes me feel really alive for some reason.
