Get em' Art. But let's trend more towards the real classics that the PR game has sorta snuffed out.

Like....remember how K Solo & Special Ed's joints were waaaaay crazier than Naughty By Nature's?

never really understood how stillmatic and blueprint could be classics

songs on the blueprint that prevent it from being a true classic:

girls, girls, girls, (seriously one of the worst jay tracks EVER recorded. song is corny in every fukking sense of the word)
also thought "song cry" was cringeworthy even though some cats like it

on stillmatic:

basically the last 4 tracks are meh.

and in my opinion if there are skippable tracks the shyt aint really CLASSIC. might be a great album, but it aint CLASSIC

of course the definition of classic changes from person to person, but i dont think either of these are truly bonafide classics.. i used to think so, but upon recent listens, nahhhhhhhhhh. some of those tracks aged horribly

i hear you and think you're a solid cat for sure. but there are classic records from my era with wack tracks. youtube 'try to do me' by Brand Nubian....the reason it didn't matter was because the GOOD STUFF WAS GENRE DEFINING.

aint shyt like that on jay's album....Nas had 4 GREAT songs on stillmatic and it caused us all to get flashbacks to illmatic.

believe me Nas is the biggest rap bust of all time. im not at all crazy.

i feel u on that. i guess what i was trying to say is that, the previous classics that did have weak tracks, literally broke down barriers with what they did so they get somewhat of a pass. by the time stillmatic and BP dropped, i was expecting something practically perfect considering who they were and the budget/producers they were able to get.

i agree not all classics are 100 percent unskippable, but for the BP especially, it was a short enough album that it shoulda been perfect. wasn't like the shyt was 20 tracks

Word up. Lol.

But yeah...lithe towers dropping meant way more to me than a Jay record that was essentially a lite fm version of hip hop.

I recall clear as day driving around shaolin playing Rza's 'be a man' song from digital bullet amidst that chaos. I, myself..stopped my block from attacking our local bodega in Stapleton and then when we went to the city I kept my neighbor in check (who benches 400 plus).

I had other shyt on my plate. I'm also drinking whiskey right now dammit!

considering how u talk about jay-z, i gotta ask, where do u rank him? obviously most under 30 year olds got him in the top 5. personally he's maybe top 15 for me. i respect the talent, but man theres a lot of garbage he's put out. for as witty as he is? i thought he'd be redman status with at least 3 classics by now...

I love Jay. He kinda punctuates my coming of age...i turned 21 in like 1998....and i feel he made FANTASTIC club records. He 100% delivered in his prime more than Nas did. No question. Illmatic not included.
