As a democrat, I'd say it's really pointless to continue to rehash this Bernie Hillary conversation.
The left traditionally has been for higher information voters. I find a better discourse is to talk about the policies and see what people want and attempt to find suitable leaders for that agenda.
Ideally I think they should be younger, as a result, allowing more time over the course of a political career to implement and maintain left leaning policies.
Being an obstructionist is simple, but you're merelylimiting your discourse to what the opposition is conjuring up. Liberals gain very little without a plan of how we feel America should go forward and an active discourse.
