...i have a very inappropriate and morbid joke for this but whatever.

Double or nothing onyour 5k.
You wake up and find yourself in a room with two doors and no other exits. In front of each door is a robot. In the middle of the room there is a placard. On the placard is the following.
Behind one door is freedom, behind the other is death.
One robot will always tell a lie, the other will always tell the truth.
You may ask ONE question to ONE robot to determine which door will lead to freedom.

What question do you ask?
Ask the liar what the truthful robot will say :manny:

how do you know which is the liar? You don't know which robot is which or what door is which?
ask one robot what the other would say is freedom door and then ask the other robot what the other would say is freedom door

True robot will say the wrong door cause he knows he's a liar.

Lie robot will say the wrong door cause he can't stop lying :lupe:

you can only ask one question
and you don't know which robot is which so even if you asked them both the same question 1 would point to the "freedom" door and one would point to the "death door" effectively giving you nothing.

nope believe it or not there is ONE question you can ask to either robot that will help you out of the room. That's a hint by the way ;)
I'm not getting it. If I ask either robot my question they both will leave me to the death door. I'm asking "what would the other robot say is the freedom door" :manny:

Ok so lets call the robots Robot A and Robot B. Now for the sake of argument let's say Robot A = Liar & Robot B = Truth

Now if you ask Robot A your question he'll lie and point opposite door
If you ask Robot B your question he'll tell the truth and point to the truth door.

The rub is that you don't know which robot tells teh truth and which lies and you can only ask ONE question to ONE robot.

Make sense?

Hum, how about if I ask one robot what the other one think and not directly what they think ?
1. If I ask Robot A what door Robot B will say is the freedom door, he will lie and point to the opposite, therefore the Death door.
2. If I ask Robot B what door Robot A will say is the freedom door, he will tell the truth and point to the Death door because he knows Robot A is a liar.

The trick is Robot A will always lie, so either he will lie directly (about B's answer) or indirectly (when A will truthfully say he'll lie).
So I have to ask one Robot which door the other Robot will point out as the good door, then they will always point the wrong one out because of that liar Robot A. And I will have to take the other door.
Don't know if I'm clear :whew:

Hmm, thats what I was initially thinking..I have to consider this a bit more though.

I get you, but I still don't think that question would identify which robot is which. Lets say you ask one robot about the other robot's hypothetical response, you may get a lie or a truth statement. If you could ask both robots then that would work. I had pondered it myself. (not sure about my analysis of this but I think it's correct)
Only thing you know is one lies and the other one don't. But you don't have to know which one lies, you just need to know where is the right door. Don't overthink it :jawalrus:

Yeah, the more I reconsidered it, the more Im in line with you. Then again, it's not clear that one robot is aware of the other robot, so their answer may be erroneous.
