It's saccharine, and moreover, it's an obvious olive branch to pop radio.
Michael has great inspirational songs like Earth Song, Man In The Mirror, and Keep The Faith.
Will You Be There is infinitely better than this.
As Michael got older, he developed a fondness for schmaltzy songs.
Even though Childhood is a skip for me, it's a much better written song than Heal The World.
EDIT: I even think Be Not Always is underrated.
