So I was listening to Bulletproof Wallets yesterday and it made me think about the first time I heard this album.
This album was my introduction to Ghost and really my first Wu album.
So this came out in 01 but I prolly got it in 02 so I was maybe 15/16 at the time. I think I was still on rap music.com at the time and maybe lurking SOHH and I remember nikkas was talking about Ghost as like a goat level rapper.
I remember just randomly riding with my grandmother to Target and I bought this album with my lunch money I saved up lol I was actually looking for Supreme Clientele but didn't see it and I had no idea what this album was but it said Ghostface so I went ahead and got it.
Of course granny ain't letting me play this shyt in the car but I was holding that CD like my life depended on it. I remember buying a new album was like Christmas back then. Couldn't wait to rip the plastic off that shyt and put it in my CD player.
Anyway I get back home and I let the intro rock, no rapping so on to Maxine.. Oh shyt, run it back. Play it again, again, I prolly ran Maxine back 5-6 times before I moved on. I never heard a voice like that, with that energy telling a story.
I heard Cher Chez La Ghost on TV a bunch before but never really paid it much mind but Maxine?? It only took one song to make me a full fledged fan.
I liked Flowers, nice lil bop. I keep listening on to Strawberry.. WTF.. This nikka Ghost wild
The Forest kinda weirded me out at first but I liked it after awhile.
What made you get the same shoe as mine??
I used to randomly say that shyt at school and nikkas had no idea what I was talking about
Ghost is so glamourous
Word on the set is that I fukk up all cameras
What a way to end an album
Anyway overall I liked the album and had my few favorites from it. I remember going on Kazaa after and downloading a bunch of Ghost shyt..
The Watch(still a top 10 Ghost track for me)
Good Times
Guerrilla Hood
Etc
All became favorites and from then on I was hooked. Anything I came across with Ghost was getting an instant download.. I would weirdly wait to buy albums if I was a fan so I didn't hear SC and Ironman till later.
This reminds me I actually bought Masta Ace Disposable Arts and Only Built 4 Cuban Linx at the same time, both introductions to Raekwon and Masta Ace respectively. Maybe I can tell that story after I catch this flight
Damn didn't think this thread would go this long lol
