Now you're defeating your premise even more, because you are alluding to the fact that he would have been discriminated against, socially and economically, and mistreated because of his sexual orientation, which is a natural motivator to stay in the closet. So where is this idea coming from that gay = dollars/endorsements?

The politically correct answer is, he is courageous and so on. The real answer in most nba players minds is I hope that nikka goes to any team but mine. Also, the fact that he is a free agent, if his agent makes the call to other teams they may not be so quick to say no to avoid bad press. This can easily buy him one or 2 more years in the league and then it sets him up nicely for a career after the nba.
