Maybe Common misspoke and didn't articulate his sentiments in the way he intended? People sometimes make mistakes....
This is an artist who's spoke about social issues for a very long time so I don't believe he genuinely thinks it's that easy or that's a fair thing to ask. Looks like he was trying to say to show love to eachother and he's gonna set an example.
He just went too far with the relationship shyt because got to bring that up, to get justice in the NOW in part cause it's still going on and also something that has and is still having a massive effect systematically. If his point is to not blindly target individuals where it completely hinders any dialogue or progression can understand that, but have to be able to bring up things because it was and is fact that needs to be dealt with. Hiding it and just trying to be peaceful and loving won't help, what's needed really is for everyone to get together and fight, protest and unify to combat injustice and come together based off principle, so the door be open to anybody that we don't hate YOU as an individual for what happened in the past and you can help us in some form but we do stand strongly against the systematic oppression and the will act against any injustice and you can't do that without speaking on them. Racists don't give a fukk about anybody lending a hand, they have a superiority complex based off race, they are normally very ignorant and prejudice deeply rooted and it's not the victims of racism responsibility to end it, the offenders need to held accountable.
Will check his new album out though, hope it's good, very gifted artist.
