The bald-headed rapper calls the album a "call to action.” “We came up with this concept,” Common says. "Nobody Smiling was really a thought that came about because of all the violence that was going on in Chicago, or that is going on. I like to say was because we’re going to bring it into fruition that it’s going to stop. All the violence that’s going on, it happens in Chicago, but it's happenin' around the world in many ways.”

street single out ...

common said I feel excited about the project I’m working on. It’s called Nobody Smiling. It’s an album; originally I was making it an EP, but we’ve just been making a lot of songs, myself and No I.D. We came up with this concept—Nobody Smiling was really a thought that came about because of all the violence that was going on in Chicago, or that is going on… It happens in Chicago, but it’s going on around the world in many ways, in inner cities all over America. We were talking about the conditions of what was happening when I said Nobody Smiling, but it’s really a call to action.

I hope this is good.. It's about time some of these rappers actually start documenting the culture again and not just the party..

Shame it has to come from a 40 year old though...

most rappers I grew up listening to are 40 plus given that they are even relevant. his age shouldn't be an issue.

I agree..

Im just saying his age, fame and distance give him a different perspective about the problems in the city..I'd also want to hear some dudes Keef and Fredo's age voice from their perspective..

It's almost like what if in '90 a 40 year old from South Central was attempting to make Amerikkkas Most Wanted and Death Certificate...The fact that Cube was 20 and talking about his peers gave it better context and didn't come off as preachy..
