Common is one of those rappers that nikkas put Common in that "legend" category for unknown reasons. But truth be told, Common has never been that good of a rapper...nikkas gonna neg me, but some of Common shyt is borderline trash.

I don't know how anyone listens to the song "Resurrection", "6th Sense", "1999", "Invocation", "The bytch in Yoo", etc and says "yeah, this guy was never a good rapper".

I've heard all of his albums except the shyt he made around 2007-2014. I don't think rappers who are just top 50 should be called "legends". Maybe top 20. That's just me tho.

it was a great re-introduction to the world for Common but last time i listened to it i just felt kind of
surprised me.
clearly i didn't have the connection to the album as i thought i did.

I disagree, especially now that there are millions of rappers. Think about it - there have been thousands of professional (as in, had a record deal, some sort of exposure) throughout history. To be in the top 50 is pretty damn legendary.

because it was never good. In fact, "Be" was one of the first "wtf" moments I had as a hip hop fan. The press dikkrode the shyt out of it (because it was Kanye) and I thought the album was trash on release. I was a Common fan by the time "Be" came out. I was familiar with his work. The hype didn't make sense to me at all.
After a while, I figured out that a lot of these writers were new cacs who either liked the weak music or were just towing the record label line. By 2004, a lot of major releases were damn near unlistenable but there would be insane write ups/hype for the shyt. Prior to 2004 there was always hype in hip hop but shyt would actually live up to the hype in some way. 2004 is really when the woat era began imo

I was deployed when Be dropped. I didn't have the luxury of internet hype at the time. My wife sent it to me in a care package and I listened to that shyt almost everyday while I was there. I still listen to it a few times a year. I fukk with all his albums except for UMC, Electric Circus, and Can I Borrow a Dollar. I still listen to songs from these albums, just can't play all the way through.
