for that exact time and till the bitness and delay of big IllINOIS.
common was the best solo hardest working emcee in rap.
moving out of the styles war to technical revolution.
he was also one of the best styles war emcees as well.
like right behind to tied with everyone from:

b-real
redman
del
method

yet after the delay for big IllINOIS.
we all never got to hear.
[side note : Being there in dr wax asking if it came out and it was delayed was probably the worst i felt about a delay since big l everytime it was delayed.
as i was sure that it could ruin the end of common's actual career like it ruined big l. Especially being embroidered in what should have been him ultimately putting ice cube and wack gangsta prison industrial economy rap completely out to pasture. Which would have changed what and how we live to this day. As far as impressionable gateway soon to bevome gateway rap fans in the sales spike era].

Plus may have destroyed prison industrial economy made toy gangsta rap as this thing.
after that, something happened.
That forever ruins common all time after that.
plus draws into question.
how he became the common sense on cibad to resurrection.
plus showed and illustrated why we have this remnant of what the real common sense was before he just became common.

man I bet at some point we crossed paths.
I went to Kenwood and used to waste hours hanging out at Dr Wax.

I worked at dr wax too breh.
both locations, Evanston and Hyde park.

not long but i did work there in like what was that, 1996.
I worked in hyde park when they changed locations the first time.
i was going religiously to dr wax.
on every release Tuesday before they moved the first time before the mid nineties as well.
back when twilite tone had the light natural beige tan Eddie Bauer three quarters length coat.

how old are you?

do you write?
who are you?
what crew were you in?

I remember I heard his first album and....honestly hated it. I thought "Soul By The Pound" was

Seen the video for "I Used To Love Her"....was

when it got to the last line.

Like 2 weeks later I went to Blockbuster Music....don't even know if you guys remember that place. You could go in and preview any album or single at a listening kiosk.

Anyway, I was over....I dunno. Looking at some album. My boy was was at a kiosk, looking like this:

Said he was listening to the new Com album. I was

because I wasn't really a fan.

He said "just listen to the first song". I was

"whatever".

Went from

to

by the end of the first verse.

Sat down at another kisok and heard the whole album. Came back like a week later and copped it.

The album is prolly his best effort lyrically.

but to me One day and Like water >>>> this easily in other aspects of writing like content. better production and he doesnt sound corny and awkward as he does on Resurecction

Res is cool for the lyrical spiritual/lyrical bragg stuff that he was doing and executed well. But One day and Like water was him more complete as a rapper and artist IMO

When I compare them, Res is dope for spitting. But One day and Like water are better written content wise and everything else.
