That's not how it works lol. They get artists like Yachty, Joey Badass, etc. on the show because they're a professional publication and they have the connections + standing to be able to contact those artists' publicity teams and get them on the show. And without red carpet passes, you don't get the infamous Migos interview or content over something like BET Awards weekend.

meanwhile, artist like lil boaty has streamed on twitch with akademiks several times. that migos interview, while funny, has caused real street problems for joe. its only good for complex ratings, not the real people involved.

And yes, it is "hard" to "rent a studio and hire some editors", you need to set up a company to do that, establish payroll, find and hire experienced people who would rather be working at a large publication like Complex, etc. You know how many producers, editors, interns probably work on the Everyday Struggle show? In order to get together news for the day, put it all together for them to talk about, set up that studio, make sure the audio and equipment is good, setup the cameras, get in touch with guests and their publicists, catering, graphics and videos and whatnot, making sure videos are uploaded on time, etc etc etc. It's a fukking operation like any TV show.

bruh, its real work but not impossible. i watch several youtube shows with similar production value. a small team of 6 or so people can get the job done.

It's not just about numbers, Budden and Ak obviously get numbers. It's about platform, no different from anything else in the world. Now I'm not saying Budden and Ak couldn't go do this independently and be successful with it, but they would have a lot of things to consider in order to that

they’d mainly have to consider if taking a pay loss would be worth owning their own platform and brand in the future, that’s it. people go where the popularity is at. that goes for sponsors, record labels, and interns/employees. they dont need complex to get their own thing popping at all.

and even if they didnt want to start from the ground up. theres other platforms im sure that would love to accommodate them

The 5 Million I can believe. This is the thing, overcharging is a normal business tactic people use when they don't want to do something, you overcharge them, and if they meet the quota, then you do it, and if they don't you walk away.

Joe probably didn't want to do the show anymore anyway, since he's in the works of branching off with his own show. So he asked them for a contract that he knew they would probably never agree to. It's a win win. They sign it, great, he gets his 5 Million and does the show. They don't? That's great too. I can leave now like I wanted to anyway, and do my own thing that I was already working on.

is it really overcharging?

That show is getting really popular now, and will likely only get more popular over the next couple years. Internet shows are the way to go in the future.

5 million isn't even a lot of money

that's an MLE contract in the NBA.. a bum player contract...

shyt, that KCP bum from the Lakers is getting 18 million this year and it's not even considered expensive. He's low on the totem pole..

You think Everyday Struggle is generating enough revenue for Complex Media to make 5mil to be small potatoes like it is for the NBA? If true, Budden is either out of his damn mind, or was looking for an excuse to part ways anyhow.

5 mil for 3 years isn't that bad of a deal..I am not sure what type of money Complex generates to comment though but I would expect someone like Charlamagne to easily get that

- If he asked for 5 mill he a dumb fakkit. He's not worth even half that.

- He disrespected Meth. He got butthurt over a Goddamn Vibe magazine piece where people rightfully placed Meth as a better MC than him and started shytting on Meth, amongst other Hip Hop legends, and even tried to imply he had ghostwriters. Rightfully got punched in the face and made to apologize.

- His wife is just the most recent in a litany of industry whores that only his dumbass wifes up. A year from now he gonna be crying, suicidal and ready to beat her ass after she gets caught getting a train ran on her by Michael Beasley and two other Knicks benchwarmers.
Unless that kid came out the p*ssy with a weird ass beard, a skully and some joggers I wouldn't bet $10 dollars that it's his.

- fukk you or me. I'm talking about him in relation to others in his field of entertainment/rap. Dude a perennial loser and toxic to whoever he ends up dealing with for long stretches of time. He's not worth what he was asking. Shoulda took the 200 gs.

Complex subscribers keep dropping. Akademiks begging nikkas to stop disliking videos. And it's aks fans leading the charge.

Budden is going to get a bag for this decision. They need him and the fans are proving it.

But keep holding grudges and not saluting a nikka over changing culture vultures. This is a moment right now. He got these nikkas by the balls and y'all can't see him using his leverage. He get half of that 5 all you nikkas look like idiots.
