my laptop currently has a core i7 2630QM. the difference in processing power between the 2630QM and the 4700 is not that great.

1) should i get a new mobo for a about $50
2) get a new one with a haswell chip(Core i7) on it for about 900.
3) Wait a couple months for the refresh haswell chips to come out?
4) or wait for the Broadwell chips to come out sometime next year?

What are you using the laptop for?
coding, writing, internet(:mjpls:) and gaming . thing is i want to get me one that last me 3-4 years. Thats why i try to get relatively high-end(processing power) laptops where the only thing i got to worry about is mobo, fan repair.

4700 is pretty much better than the 2nd gen in most ways. However if you need something to last that long I'd roll with a 4800 or 4900 which can be oveclocked and works better with some of these cpu intensive games these days.

yea. But i was asking what the best option was.

Check out IdeaPad Yoga
right now im only looking at HPs because of the favorable customization options and warranty. Dell makes you pay a gang of money now :snoop: Lenovo makes good laptops but their high-end stuff are too expensive(geeks.com closed down) and base warranty is only one year. Toshibas are trash :camby:
