Federal prosecutors in the U.S. District for Western Washington were pushing for U.S. District Judge Robert Lasnik to sentence 37-year-old Paige Thompson to seven years in prison after a jury in June found her guilty of wire fraud, five counts of unauthorized access to a protected computer and damaging a protected computer.


Lasnik instead sentenced her to five years of probation and time served, saying time in prison would "be particularly difficult for Ms. Thompson because of her mental health and transgender status," according to a news release Tuesday from the Department of Justice.

The Capital One hack compromised about 140,000 Social Security numbers and 80,000 bank accounts, and has since led to $80 million in fines for the company and a $190 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit.
