It would be for next season Pierce's contract has a team option and is only guaranteed for 5 million.Grizzlies would be saving money by acquiring pierce then letting him go this summer

Grizzlies could get rid of gay's contract which has more money and years left on it

Paul Pierce; $16,790,345, $15,333,334 for the next two years. And only four million are guaranteed in that last year of his deal.

They would save roughly 20 million dollars and even up to 30 million if they decide to buy him out after this year

And why they would trade Gay for Pierce is pretty obvious. Talent upgrade and salary reduction. They've made it pretty clear that Gay isn't part of their long term plans and PP makes perfect sense for them because they'll still be able to contend while reducing salary.

I disagree breh. They already threw a first rounder at Cavs for just a salary dump. IMO they would hop on the Pierce deal with no questions asked. It helps them both financially and they'll be able to compete for two years.

I doubt they want Gay long term, the problem is I doubt Celtics even want him long term. He's an inefficient chucker at this point.
