Think about it. Since the 60's, all one has had to do as a Republican politician to drum up support and votes is channel their voters animus towards the "other".

If you want to have a relatively smooth ride in jockeying for political power in America with little effort needed and potential for a high ROI, the easiest way to do so is to run as a Republican and play on the fears and prejudices that many White Americans hold.

I personally believe that few politicians, left or right, actually hold any real political positions. So if a political hopeful's desire for power outweighs their morals, more often than not, they'll opt for the easier path; the one of "God, guns, and country".

The right has skated by for years with fear-mongering and inflammatory rhetoric, but thanks to Trump, even standard neocons are viewed as traitors and "cuckservatives" among the ever-growing far-right. This is why virtually every modern-day Republican has to dikkride Trump, because without his blessing, the MAGA crowd (whom they need for votes) won't take them seriously come election season. Such as this year's midterms.

Essentially, the right's 30-plus year long campaign of machiavellianist politics is slowly coming back to bite them in the ass in the eyes of the few sane people left in this country.

Being a conservative/republican makes logical sense if you're a wealthy business owner due to tax breaks and other financial benefits, but when you're broke as fukk and living in an Appalachian trailer park and still voting for these people just because they voice support for lax gun laws and dog-whistle about minorities some questions have to be asked
