How long has this been a thing? So Markelle Fultz played tonight for the sixers after missing like 70 games and I thought about last year's draft and couldn't remember who all went where.

2017 NBA draft - Wikipedia

So players with a # and in a gray box haven't made their NBA debuts yet. I clicked on Duke's Frank Jackson who was picked first in the 2nd round. Then I see his dad was appointed state senator in Utah (which pretty much means republican) and a quick google of Alvin Jackson senator resulted in this showing up.

Then a trip down the rabbit hole shows this nonsense got heavy coverage in conservative media.

I love the internet, from Markelle Fultz to the repeal of the 17th amendment in like 4 links.

This won't "fix" the senate. At least US senate elections have pretty good turnout. If state legislatures (minuscule turnout) got to pick senators people like Bill Nelson in Florida would never make it to DC because republicans control the state legislature and have for decades. These republicans think they're slick, anything to minimize the voting power of the most people.

The ones who say this are ridiculous. They know there's no way they'd get it through. Voters ain't gonna begin taking away their own rights.

The weird thing is that it would probably backfire. Listening to the voters is what gets these horrific primaries with the Tea Party and Trumpian candidates. In any blood-red state, the most extremist Republican is going to end up winning cause only the hard-core voters go to those primaries. if the legislatures picked the candidates, they would begin realizing that they needed people they could actually talk to, people who you could actually make deals and compromise with, not just ideological crazies. You would probably end up with more moderate, reasonable candidates.

The answer, though, isn't so much repealing the 17th as it is redistricting with more moderate districts.

in the most blood red states, the state legislatures are worse than those in DC.

If this ain't the truth.:mjlol:

That would be very short term thinking. Listened to a podcast a while back that discussed this, basically state legislatures became fukkery since voters got tired of state legislatures basically appointing fat cats that were their donors to the senate:mjlol: shyt became so chaotic that they said :hubie:

I think it would at least make everyone care about state elections again, but no way state republicans are this dumb:francis:

Mark Levin has been calling for this for almost a decade. It is the main reason that conservatives want a convention of the states. They know that their platform and party is repulsive to the majority of voters so they want to systematically lock in their gains.
