Considering starting new website/blog...please advise

Hello,

I'm considering starting a new blog/website. I want to monetize it. I'm fine with it taking 1-2 years to even turn a tiny profit. Is this thing shown on this link a fine basic template? If not, please let me know. I'm not really tech savvy so I'd appreciate things explained in elementary school language. Thank You.

Yes, but I'm fine with just doing it step-by-step and wouldn't plan on just coming out of the gate and expecting to sell books, shirts, etc.

If you're personally managing the blog make sure the subject matter is something you like.

Also, learn everything you can about the subject matter of your website/blog.

I eventually wanna have a website that revolves solely around me and my adventures (that way I won't get bored of the content), but that is still 1-2 years away. Right now, I'm aiming to make a website that is still a part of me, but is not fully what I'm about. It's more of an experiment to see if I can make this baby project successful before I go after the real goal. Thanks for all of the advice though...Not making any porn for now.
