how would you guys feel about eliminating all the economic benefits of marriage?

I personally think this is an interesting idea, though in one, specific form. I do think there should be legal/economic benefits for committed groups of people who have formed a "family" unit of some kind. At the same time, though, I don't think that unit should be restricted to marriage relationships. There have been many times throughout history, and there still are, where people form family units for mutual benefit and survival that are outside the boundaries of a sexual/romantic relationship- different immigrant family structures, close friends who are part of a marginalized group deciding to live together, etc. I think the ideal situation would be to get rid of marriage as a legal institution, let the religious clowns keep it as a legally-useless private thing where their institutions can choose who to marry, and keep civil unions, but extend the benefits of civil unions beyond sexually-tied couples to various other family structures.

See that's my thing with this whole issue , I believe like you hey if two grown men/women want to engage in sexual activities behind closed doors, what they do is there business, now my problem comes into play when for some reason they believe they deserve all the rights as a heterosexual couple, not knowing that these rights have been put in place to promote a healthy family/patriarchal based society. Which is one of the reason this country has achieved greatness.

Them they believe that is discrimination based on there sexual preference, no its the same reason a man cant marry 4 women or a woman can't marry 4 men. Why don't we allow that? Are we saying that man or woman is not capable of truly loving 4 other people? Same reason we don't allow a 50 yr old a 13 yr old to get married, Same reason we don't allow a person to marry a horse or a dog or a dolphin etc etc. It doesn't promote the growth of a healthy society.

How many times do people have to debunk the slippery slope faux nastradamus reactionism before you stop reproposing and restating this argument?

They don't understand that blacks and minorities for many many decades were totally banned from fully exercising there rights here, and there were laws SPECIFICALLY put in place for this. Point out to me where there has ever been a "homosexual" not allowed sign or laws.They were ever persecuted like blacks were. hung from trees, burned alive, dogs sicked on them , raped etc etc it has never happened. Yet they always try to equate there struggle.

You are filling the blanks in for several groups of people and ignoring any of the discrimination sexual minorities do face. period.

are you asking these questions because you really don't know.
1. Marrying your sisters is wrong because your offspring has a greater chance of coming out deformed.

2. You can marry a girl in some states if the parents say it's ok. Otherwise you can't because the CHILD does not have the capacity to recognize the consequences of her decision. Essentially it's child molestation.

3. Multiple wives never really saw anything wrong with this. Not my cup of tea but there's not hing really wrong with this IMHO.

Trying to equate two adults deciding to live a certain way that causes no direct harm to anyone with child molestation is just...well if that's the basis of an argument you're starting out WAYYY in the hole already.

2. I dont see anything particularly wrong with it myself. In fact it would probably be a nice outlet for couples that are into sharing etc. Obviously it makes divorce law terrible, but who cares.

In short one of the things that made america "great" was the institution of marriage ( lets forget for a second who could marry who so we don't get off track) I explained this in a older thread before ( with more details than am going to give now ) but reason we even have marriage laws in there current form is because in the mid 1800s, once the country was seriously getting settled, they wanted to discourage men (mostly white) from having illegitimate children with ( mostly black) women, and there (white women) too they also wanted to provide benefits for women who husbands died in wars or defending the country and were now left without a man to provide for them and there children , these laws in turn would lead to people have a legit vested interest in not only settling down and having children here but also staying here and not just migrating back to there country of origin. This is a nutshell dont hold me to any facts. Do you see where homosexuality doesnt fit in here?

1. If anything this reinforces the point. By illegalizing marriage, homosexuals are essentially told by culture and law that they should not settle down and form committed relationships. Instead of being able to settle down, adopt unwanted children, and pool resources you're essentially encouraging them to sleep around and do all the shyt they're stereotyped for.
