I never liked Hammer's music but — I said this before — the overboard hate for dude was really just envy disguised as respectability politics. I agree the optics of that KFC™ commercial might have been too much but a lot of that "stop dancing and showing teeth, the white folks are looking" was really just "how dare he reach a certain plateau and not me". It's even more obvious now that it's cool to have endorsements.
