In some respects I think its even worse because I dont dven feel like there's a hip hop industry or culture anymore and its just there for any and anyone to get in. Its literally devolved into just being a genre of music rather than a culture. I feel you, especially on the culture shyt, and this maybe nostalgia, but I still feel the mid - late 2000's was better, at least from a NY perspective because the Mixtape game was still some what poppin. However, in saying that...the ringtone era was still worse...those were some fuccin dark days man. The genre hasnt fully recovered from that pile of sh1te. I can't think of more than 5 albums i still think are great from 06-11 it was that bad
