Dr. John Campbell was adamant that the vaccine rollout would lead to "quick" herd immunity and a return to normal. So knowing that that was unlikely to happen I have been keeping a close eye on him to see how he would handle being "wrong" and to see how upfront he would be about backtracking on those early assurances.
Well he recently backtracked by saying that now "he is convinced that we will be able to rid the world of Covid after a few seasons of vaccinations" but at no point did he hold his hands up and say that he was wrong previously. Also when talking about the South African variant he seems to be following what he wants rather than the science. He has said multiple times in the past that the vaccines will handle the variants. Now he says we will have to adjust the vaccines for new variants and it will take "seasons" to stop this.
So as highly intelligent as he is, it seems that the cost of being that smart is stubbornness and arrogance. These are by no means deadly sins but knowing this I have to be even more diligent in analysing his videos and statements.
I still like him though and am eternally grateful for his videos but it is interesting to see nonetheless.
