Depends on what level of death are you comfortable with. Right now we're at 60,000 dead if social distancing continues through August. If you want 100-250K, let the states open things up earlier.

Granted, I don't know if social distancing equals lockdown in their model. I don't know what should and shouldn't be allowed for the public to do at that point. Definitely not allowing groups bigger than 10. So no sit down eating, concerts, sports, church, etc.

Really what is there that you'd want to do?
im not just talking about wanting to take selfish trips to vegas

how many people are gonna have to close up the businesses they put their whole lives into? do we have to weigh that, or does that just not matter at all?

An infectious and fatal strain of bird flu has been confirmed in a commercial turkey flock in South Carolina, the first case of the more serious strain of the disease in the United States since 2017. https://to.pbs.org/2JX0lB2

A less severe strain of bird flu had been detected along the North Carolina and South Carolina state recently but the case in Chesterfield County, South Carolina discovered on Monday was found to be a more fatal and easily spread strain.

:jbhmm: Maybe this is mother nature's way of letting us know, that the earth is at it's carrying capacity.

We need to blow this shyt up, and restart how we do somethings.

It's only a matter of time before the next climate change disaster happens and this economy is completely vulnerable.

Again, what do you want to do?

You want to sit down at a restaurant with 50 other people and risk getting infected?

Imagine one person walking into that restaurant sick. He infects 10 people indirectly, they infect another 100, who infect another 10,000. At 2%, that's 200 people dead from one guy.

I don't know about you, but I can't see people wanting to go back out anyway at least until there's at least a treatment(not even a cure).

Where's the gangs in America? :mindblown:They would look like heroes in times like these

Italy is currently dealing with a countrywide lockdown due to the coronavirus, and the Mafia is helping out the country's residents in need.

The Guardian reports that videos of known Mafia gang members delivering food and other essential goods have surfaced online over the past few weeks. They reportedly brought the goods to some of the poorest regions across the south of the country, specifically Campania, Calabria, Sicily, and Puglia. Italy is one of the European countries to be hit hardest by the virus, with over 160,000 confirmed cases and more than 16,000 deaths.

"For over a month, shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs have been closed," anti-mafia investigator Nicola Gratteri explained. "Millions of people work in the grey economy, which means that they haven’t received any income in more than a month and have no idea when they might return to work. The government is issuing so-called shopping vouchers to support people. If the state doesn’t step in soon to help these families, the mafia will provide its services, imposing their control over people’s lives."

Italian minister of the interior Luciana Lamorgese has indicated that the Mafia could "take advantage of the rising poverty" in the country. It is suspected the deliveries are being made to gain local support and to "recruit people to its organization." As suggested by University of Oxford professor of criminology Federico Varese, mafia families often "aspire to govern territories and markets," which would incentivize gaining the support of vulnerable residents. He also stressed that the deliveries from mafia members "are not gifts," but favors that locals should be expected to pay back.

"Mafia bosses consider their cities as their own fiefdom," Gratteri added. "The bosses know very well that in order to govern, they need to take care of the people in their territory. And they do it by exploiting the situation to their advantage. In the people’s eyes, a boss who knocks on the door offering free food is a hero. And the boss knows that he can then count on the support of these families when necessary, when, for example, the mafia sponsors a politician for election who will further their criminal interests."

You what's crazy though, we've already seen several isolated events where people have gone around intentionally trying containment products in grocery stores.

This scenario isnt as far fetched as it seems.

Go ahead and take that risk if you want. I'm not risking my life or the life of others so I can spread the shyt across America. You're tempting the devli, so to speak.

You can't just flip the switch to eradicate the virus once it's really out and running. The more people that have it, the longer it stays around, the more overloaded the healthcare system becomes, and now you've got even higher economic damage because you've got a workforce that can't work even if they wanted to. You've also allowed for extreme fear to set in as people see greater and greater amounts of people in their network dying.

I don't know what the timeline is. I don't have that info. I'd say as soon as a reasonably working treatment is here.

Like all things there is a middle ground. Right now everyone (talking broadly) is looking at it as one end of the spectrum or the other.

About 1,600 health care workers commute from Windsor, Ontario, to Detroit, which has one of the most severe coronavirus outbreaks in the U.S. But the Canadian health care workers face scrutiny at home, where some fear they'll carry the virus back.

Yup. And there are people still out there working now. That's fine. But jobs that require touching, mass amounts of people in tight spaces, etc, etc, I'm sorry, you can't expect them back anytime soon. Americans aren't prepared for the type of death counts you'd see if everyone let up in a month or even two.

It's just basic math. Even Trump's crazy ass isn't crazy enough to think he'd get re-elected with a 200,000+ death count by November.

Like all things there is a middle ground. Right now everyone (talking broadly) is looking at it as one end of the spectrum or the other.
Again, it doesn't have to be total lockdown until August. I'm not advocating for that. But the social distancing is definitely here to stay until winter at least.
