It started as some conspiracy theory in Weibo but got picked up by foreign ministry spokesperson Lijian Zhao, he has since claimed he only said it as a response to some US politician (Tom Cotton) claiming the virus leaked from Chinese lab. The fact that many American recalled that they suffered severe Flu in November-December 2019 and also the Vaping illness earlier last year often cited to fuel this conspiracy theory.

Likely the difference between the situation in NYC and here in the bay. Some restaurants here closed but I’d say close to 2/3 are open for takeout and delivery. I just went and got shrimp tacos tonight from an “upscale” taqueria - the ritzy Italian spot across from it was open doing takeout

Here in Denver 85%+ restaurants are open
