I was talking about this with my brother a few months ago. If you look back, history is full of horrible leaders doing horrible things. We’ve been lucky recently, but that isn’t the norm. Having a leader like Trump isn’t out of tje ordinary; it’s exactly how things have always been.
In pretty much every scenario, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
I’m not sure what the solution is. I used to think a separation of power and checks and balances would minimize the corruption, but Trump, the Republicans and Fox News stopped that. We are back to having terrible leaders because of them.
Unfortunately, we are going to have to think of a new way to govern, so that Trump can never happen again. We might need to watch it all burn down first though, which I’m not looking forward to
