I perhaps jumped the gun about the political slant but I have spent the last year taking pelters about "conspiracy theories", "linking right wingers" and just being said to be "plain wrong" when I said a possible lab-leak had to be examined more than one year ago.

All along my point has been that there is enough in the science (without any politics whatsoever) to suggest that a full study of possible lab-leaks should occur.

Now that his is creeping into "acceptable discussion" (a phenomenon which in and of itself is troubling) the very simple point about the genetics is getting mired in the "politics".

Politics is all fair and good but it is not connective tissue in the scientific links and just muddies the waters.

For the record the genetic distance on the balance of probabilities makes a natural evolution less likely than an unnatural one but both are possible.

I actually don't think that I have ever been "fact checked" and reacted badly to "science facts" on here.

My comments, especially in the last few weeks, have been reserved for mal- appropriated political arguments or half-baked (mis-directed or already debunked but ignored) quotes.

Finally I am not "pretending to be". My personal privacy aside I do not hide that I am from the UK, that I spend a lot of time in Germany and details about my education, job, movements etc.

It was claimed that I the brit was insinuating that I was american by virtue of some comments I made, so I added [uk] to my tagline. I speak about living in germany and the UK so as to be clear I added [de] too.

I can't put my entire profile on my tagline including "self-taught", "never uses the n-word" etc and there is not and has not been any "admitting that I am self-taught".

It is what I am and I have never hidden it. I must have said it 50+ times on here.

Beyond people knowing, if there are no consequences from the findings I find it weird.

Ehh, trump said it would never get to the us, it was just a couple of contained cases that would eventually get to zero, that it was a hoax, said hydroxychloroquine would knock it it out, and that it would all disappear by April.
