We deadass going backwards right now and mfs still wanna make it political. Let’s not forget white people were legit getting arrested cuz they refused to put a damn mask on lmao
It's fukked. I feel like the world is the movie that's already ended, and we're just in a post-credit scene.

No matter how he come out of Covid, my expectations for our ability to handle another crisis (let alone climate change) has absolutely plummeted.

More than ever I'm trying to practice stoicism, live in the moment, and just try to make the best of my own personal life and the lives of those I love.

My notions that somehow we can all pull together and make the world a better place have sadly diminished big time. I've always been an optimist too.

I can't believe after everything that we're back where we are right now.

Everything is all confusing. I don’t know who to believe anymore.
I should go back to see what you and @Lord Beasley are referencing, but to a large degree we are in uncharted waters. Nothing like this is ever happened in modern history, and we're in basically an arms race between a virus that will be mutating, and our bodies' and our medical technology's ability to keep up with it and stay ahead of it.

The same things that have worked will continue to work. What we really needed was enough people to get vaccinated to help us reach herd immunity. I thought we had a good shot at getting there, but I guess not. Anyone that's not vaccinated right now should be super careful, and might understandably feel nervous. If anyone is vaccinated, well...it was never meant to be a way to just avoid ever getting Covid...but hopefully the vaccine does its job and prevents serious complications, hospitalizations, and death.

The same stuff that's always helped will help. Social distancing, masks, etc. I'm not optimistic on how many people will go back to doing these things in the U.S. however.

I’ll keep doing what I’ve been doing to protect myself. I’m not getting rid of masks anytime soon that’s for sure. I’ll be doubling up as many times as I can to make sure I’m safe. Whoever doesn’t wanna mask up is up to them. Flu season is also coming so they should remember that as well.

nah the coli told me this wasnt possible. i dont believe it
Then they told you wrong.

The idea of the vaccine was never to prevent everyone from getting Covid. It was a nice bonus if it did lower the number of infections, but the whole reason for people to get vaccinated was to avoid serious disease complications, hospitalizations, and death from Covid.

So far, it's working. Infected doesn't mean they're fukked. Most people that are vaccinated will not have serious health complications or die from Covid. We want to help the immune system to be more effective at fighting it. And the good news is that is working.

But basically everyone on earth is gonna get this thing at some point. The idea is to hopefully not have to suffer as much and/or die from it when you we all do get it. It was never in the cards that vaccinated people would magically not catch Covid.

I started getting the flu vaccine every year after a terrible H1N1 flu in the mid 2000's, but sometimes I still get the flu. Thankfully though, if I have gotten the flu since getting the annual vaccine, it's never been nearly as bad. There's no promise with any vaccine that you won't get infected with the thing later. People shouldn't expect that.

Biden fukked up with this whole “Honor System” he believed everyone would’ve followed. Majority of Americans are selfish and inconsiderate. When he announced that, people who didn’t wear a mask, started to wear one.

What does that tell you.

:mjlol:
Absolutely. Behavioral psychology has been thrown to the curb so many times in this pandemic by the CDC and other institutions.

It was super obvious that letting vaccinated people stop wearing masks was going to cause EVERYONE to stop wearing masks.

I mean I can't lie. I was super relieved after getting vaccinated to take them off, but if they'd asked me to wait longer even while being vaxxed, I totally would have.

Exactly. The vaccination was not made for this delta variation. People fukking sat around and didn't get it fast enough. If enough people had gotten vaccinated, we could have stayed ahead of these fukking mutations. Now they're gonna have to start working on vaccines or boosters for the new strains as they pop up.

Too many people were fukking stupid.

Our country has such poor science literacy, and our shytty education system has been so exposed during this pandemic. I mean, I think we all knew there were a lot of fukkin idiots out there, but holy shyt.

Our leaders straight up failed the country. They told people to stop wearing masks too early. They all went out partying like everything was alright. Now look.

There are some serious caveats to that story.

Provincetown MA usually has a population of 3000 around the year but during July the population spikes to 60,000 due to out of Towner's coming for "bear week". I'll leave it to you look up bear week in that town. Let's just say that social distancing really really goes out the window which resulted in 87% of the positive tests being males.

They only tracked Massachusetts residents in that study (which btw may still be in pre print) so you can not really extrapolate the vaccines efficacy from that study.

In the end 5 people were hospitalized, 1 unvaxed, 2 immunocompromised, and 2 unlucky vaxxed.
