Just being realistic. How long do you think it would take the average person on an average salary (lets say 50k) to save up a years worth of expenses (ie: rent/mortgage, phone bill, car note/insurance, student loans, etc.) That would take a very long time. 3-4 month is a good starting range should you ever be out of work you at least have yourself covered

Everybody gotta find their own niche, and the corporate environment aint for everybody. My last word of advice for you @MillionMills is just do your homework at whatever company you at..Maybe it's not the whole environment you dont like it's just your day to day job, maybe you can transition into another role that suits your interests more, ask around, make connections

Thats part of the reason I always aimed for a career like this
But now that I'm actually here..its just not a match for my personality/work style

Stack your money into rental property, stocks, max out your pension contributions (Roth IRA in the States I think). Assumin you can put away at least 10K a year (or more if you feasibly can) you'll set yourself up nice 10 yrs from now.

Being in the corporate world is like cancer. You don't know how bad it is or how its effecting you for awhile.

It doesn't have to be all bad though, like anything, make sure you're passionate about what you do and it will be a lot smoother.

This. I had more stress at UPS loading trucks than my office job. I had more stress working retail. We tend to get comfortable and forget what it's like working at jobs with bad pay and the same amount of stress as a high paying job. I'm not saying don't chase your dreams woork things that make you happy ( I have plans to leave corporate America myself ) but I also don't forget how blessed I am right now.

shut up nikka. Corporate America is for anyone who wants to eat and wants to be compete and be successful

I can quit my job right now pick up a trade like plumbing. My mind frame is to be the best plumber, hire 5 more, then 20 more, expand hire 100 more, expand to other states, franchise get listed on NYSE, bid for plumbing contracts, expand to public sanitation. it ain't that hard. Even if you're a plumber to be financially independent competitive you're going to have to adopt a corporate mentality.

If OP wants to be lazy and not think outside the box thats his problem.

this is not even a black or white issue. It's a man issue, I can move to Nigeria, Jamaica or Haiti and still want to compete and dominate OF COURSE imma work in white america learn the tools dominate and create my own when I'm ready

I get annoyed sometimes. I work at a chill ass company though. Nice salary. Very good work-life balance. I have no complaints honestly
