Could a top NYC rapper bring that old NYC/East Coast sound back like Kendrick did or are niccas too gone riverdancing to UK/90's sample drill beats?

Most of these new nikkas are trash. Point blank. This drill shyt isn't cutting it.

This makes no sense because A Boogie With The Hoodie is 100x more popular than Jadakiss or Fabolous ever was and he sounds nothing like them

A Boogie has 3 #1 albums, a diamond record and like 30-40+ songs over gold/platinum

And solo headlines his own world wide tours

He also doesnt do drill music

Maybe I'm out of touch. But I don't see what you're talking about. I'm specifically referring to A Boogies level of popularity.

All I know is I used to constantly see me and him fighting the haters n shyt. It was literally for no reason on here. An album like Kairi Chanel would've been loved on here if it wasn't from someone from NY at the time.

I spoke up for him in the beginning. But you could see the irrational hate with these posters. There wasn't any need going back and forth with them because they were set in their agenda.

The 718
Kendrick & Mustard have built a pedigree for 15 years so they’re afforded latitude to do different stuff. Mustard is the contemporary version for the west as the guys that came before. He’s making traditional west coast vibes with new aged feel. Before you worry about a east coast rapper doing that you need the east coast producer repackaging the old into the new

The difference between boom bap and that bay shyt is BPS. When was the last time a boom bap song tore up clubs? Radio? Made women shake their ass? Inherently people move to that west coast shyt whereas east coast shyt is more…not that

So whether or not Kendrick is using a regional sound isn’t as important as it passing the accessibility test which boom bap doesn’t
The problem is at some point in mid-00s the flagbearers for boom bap became the anti-fun types and it reflected in the music. Al you need is a nikka that takes more of a Q-Tip/mid-90s Mobb Deep approach to boom bap to get that shyt poopping again.

boogie is probably the biggest artist to come out of nyc in the last decade not named pop smoke. He is extremely popular.

I agree the early 2000s NYC rap sound is what would pop off.

We need a spitter that's equally a great songwriter for it to take off. The West Coast has dope songwriters like Vince, Tyler, Kendrick and even Q.

Cash needed to find one a while ago.

@boogers @CrushedGroove and others. I don't why you put the laughing emoji. Why? It's a perfect joint.
because necro is hot garbage. im a horrorcore fan personally and everything hes done since Gory Days is hot trash. hes also just... really tryhard.

he has a couple early tracks i sorta like but he just skeeves me out. that Sexorcist shyt was just gross. he also ripped off the cover of Prefix for Death from megadeth (vic the rattlehead logo). hes not a bad beatmaker (tho lets be honest... it aint that hard to throw some boom bap drums over an 8 second classical/middle eastern music loop.. its worked for jedi mind tricks for how many years)

he also types in all caps. im 99% sure him and Fggit are cousins.

him and his brother also used the n-word in their early raps

Okay.

I read what you wrote. We can agree to disagree.

The Pre-fix album art looks nothing like Vic.

Necro worked with Dave Ellefson from Megadeth on Evil Rules.

The thread premise asked for a "top NYC rapper" that could "bring back the traditional NYC/East Coast sound".

He's not a top MC anywhere so he does not have the cache to bring anything back. And that song is both proof and not proof.

k. is celebrated but listen to what type of time they are currently on out west

they don't make traditional sounding shyte anymore than any other region

nikkas k. age or older are not the demographic to look at as far as what wave is rolling or will be up next

he's not bringing anything back he's just making the type of music he feels like making

this thread is just more unnecessary NYC peter polishing

I read that. But Necro is independent, had a world tour and has hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners.

I feel am Griselda are leading the way for New York hip hop.

ASAP Mob, Joey/Pro Era, Bronson and whoever was from Griselda that was from the city all did it but didnt get that kinda push (except ferg and rocky. french montana had records that came close (Shot Caller) and then after it was guys actually from that era before (Nas, Jada, Busta etc)

Theres people but it also means people in NYC not callin the shyt dusty or whatever

I was about to say it. ASAP Rocky restored the feeling in NYC at one point and they could have been the next DipSet but, them nikkas fell off.

Drake, Kendrick and J. Cole were dropping albums nonstop in the early to mid-2010s and it felt like Asap and his crew were doing nothing. Rocky should've had an album every year in that era plus a group album.

Envy, 22, Coach, Sheff and Sleepy all dropped the ball, especially Envy since bro was nice and could actually rap to any type of beat. But nikkas focused on beefing and missed their chances. The only one left is Fivio and well, Fivio is Fivio… :francis:
