The stabbing has to be #1 on the list because that shyt could have gone very differently. You accidently kill somebody at damn near the apex of your career...it's over. Removing Jay from the equation in 1999/2000 could have had some pretty huge ramifications. Maybe Kanye ends up on another label with less support and he never becomes Kanye. Maybe another rapper becomes the next big NY guy and elevates beyond where they would have been. Camron for instance. What does Nas' career look like (post I Am) if he's the last man standing and all the producers are calling Steve Stoute.

He's kept alive by being the most discussed rapper of all time for 25 years straight.
It's actually the opposite.
Jay made Beyonce go from cute rnb chick to Icon. From taking over her PR team, choosing her moves. Hustling for her the best songs(crazy in love was snatched from Amerie, for example), his connection with music moguls and the media helped her hype and elevated her.
I'm a Nas fan but Jay Z is not respected or highly regarded because he married Beyonce. It would be the same even if he hadn't.
