Frankly, I'm skeptical if they could capture the magic of the first couple of seasons.
Dude damn near ended kellz and Perry's Career. and that BET show that they made them take down was probably too much. I just don't think the powers that be would let him go that hard again.
The last season when he left had it's moments but it wasn't the same.

I love the idea, she definitely has the energy needed for the role.
You really can't replace John Witherspoon, but if they HAVE to have a parental figure in the show, I'd take them moving in with Tom (Tom might be the MVP of the show. I'll never be able to listen to "Burn" by Usher and not laugh because of him), or have her play a role, or fukk it.......see if they can get Laurence Fishburne. I remember him basict being a modern Pops in the early seasons of Blackish.
If they just wrote the script for Grandad and gave it to a woman and called her Auntie or Ma it wohkdnt work.
Pops had a certain style and brought his own mannerisms and stuff to the table and they wrote toward that.
I'm not saying she wohkdnt be good on the show. There ain't no replacing pops. If anything like someone said they should have the boys move on without pops.
Maybe a dark hour episode. Huey gets gets a scholarship to a foundational black school which requires him to leave and refuses to leave without the opportunity to take Riley. During the time grandad thinks things are gonna be great, no drama and bullshyt, peace and quiet but realizes shyt sucks and he's bored. Even Ruckus seems to have his own stuff going on, maybe they still meet in the park for checkers or chess whatever they played a few times in the show and grandad tells him he wants the boys back home, he misses them, yet Ruckus explains as c00nishly as possible that them going to the school is the best educational opportunity for them. Grandad gets sick and tries to reach out to the boys and it's too late Tom Dubois, Jasmine, ruckus all come to pick up huey and Riley and take them back to woodcrest, where they meet their aunt or grandma and instead of being better, their previous established attitudes are worse x10 setting up a new season and newer shenanigans.
