This has always been a misleading gauge of middle class wealth. Even those with money can’t cover a $2,000 emergency expense without feeling it. Unless you’re making millions, a sudden $2,000 expense on something that isn’t superficial will hurt.

Water pump on my car just burst and I got an oil change. It ended up costing us $1700.

Luckily we save, so we had the money available without dipping into our main emergency fund (used strictly for if one or both of us lose our jobs or a MAJOR emergency).

I guess… car repair does happen but outside of that it seems futile seein as how insurance is there for these reasons, it’s why deductibles be 500.00…. they even got car repair insurance now….
