Majority of cops are good guys who do good. Unfortunately it's the system that's rotten. You can't expect a good cop to stand up to that system, so they just keep their head down and allow the rotten ones and the system to keep doing what they do.

Also I don't want t to live in a copless society. Just because the police are essential in our society doesn't mean they're beyond reproach.

There are cop-less societies out there.. and they are either primitive villages where you have no contact with the modern world which isn't bad, but there ain't no cable TV, internet or Doritos and stuff...
OR it's Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome status... and you are either a kingpin, henchman, or a dead man, there's no in between.

Sure but I'd want to be on an island away from everyone. To many psychopaths out there that would start killing, raping, and robbing people if there was no one to enforce the laws. Hell there was someone on this board who admitted they'd be raping women and robbing people if there were no consequences for it.

Americans are too individualistic to run an organized society without law enforcement.

The only way this could conceivably work is if a bunch of military vets came together and formed a paramilitary group, probably alongside armed vigilante groups with some sort of centralized leadership, and even then they will be in constant battle with gangs for territorial control.

This sort of thing actually happens in parts of Mexico where armed vigilantes band together and battle with the cartels for control of territory.

Even if you argue that police are needed for violent encounters (ignoring that this is the most peaceful time on Earth), I'd wager less than 20 % of cops ever are involved in violent encounters so you could downsize the force considerably.

if there were No police, I'm almost positive local militias would band together. Same reason that gangs exist.

I'm putting my foot in my mouth, but I'll take solace that there is some government accountability rather than the code of the streets.
