If you mind me asking what is the allowance for? Is this about house, bills, kids issues? Or just giving her money for the fun of it? Because I've never dated the "traditional" type of women. So I'm not sure what you're asking.

Depends on whats going on.
I could understand if for whatever reason (health, pregnancy, unable to find a job at the moment, and etc) an allowance was needed and my husband understands that I have weekly financial expenses then I would be ok with it.
I know several women who live like that. Their man pays all the bills and they are given $300+ weekly to just to spend how they want. They are perfectly happy with with it. When I was in high school my teacher resigned to be a stay at home mom. Some take on small part time jobs, or volunteer projects. My uncle does that for his wife. She works a small part time job and he is a petroleum engineer. She takes care of the home. If it works for the relationship then it is what it is.

You going to work nearly everyday so I'm sure it rolls off the tongue naturally by now.
Allowance for you to still buy that onion and some drinks or to keep you from being over stressed from work, unless you want to save it.
She dominates the pot because she generally has less stress physically and mentally, so she's less likely to spend haphazard. She also, if you knock her up, has a motherly instinct. So she's more than likely planning ahead for the kid(s).
I'm not sure what the bolded part of your statement meant, so I'll let it go.
About your second statement. I guess it can work if it's your preference. but I grew up with both parents who worked a lot, so I guess I'm just not comfortable with the " Traditional female and men role". Both parents educated, both parents had full time careers.
