Motorcyclists like myself usually avoid driving in the center of lanes because that is the most slippery part of the road. when it rains you are just asking to wipe out.
Generally stick to the far left or far right of the lane. This helps with traction, also helps avoid being rear ended at lights.
In the city there are alot of parked cars, so we would be on the far left side. In the country you are more concerned about oncoming traffic, cars passing each other, so you would be on the far right.

Motorcyclists can go the rate of traffic and so their main concern is slippery roads and stop lights

Bicyclists can't go the rate of traffic, and so their main concerns are drivers who don't see them when passing or drive too close.

Motorcycles are closer to bicycles than cars in terms of safety, but I encourage you to ride a bicycle in a street to understand why cyclist often opt to 'take the lane' so that everyone sees them, instead of taking the far right side. The far right side makes life easier for car drivers who are paying attention while also increasing the risk that the cyclist gets hit by someone who is not paying attention
