i think it was justified w/out his help, he just made sure i expressed my credentials and qualifications in the most clear and efficient way possible. after all that's their specialty, college apps.

:whew: This friend, went to school, paid attention, got the girl, stayed after school for athletic practice, went home, did homework, ate dinner, had fun, went to sleep and did it again the next day. Please tell me about your parents so i might emulate their tactics with my seed, friend.

I worry about being able to raise my kids as well all the time :manny:

They managed to find the perfect balance of discipline/freedom, pushed me to do well but let me learn from my own mistakes, encouraged me to try and challenge myself but supported me when I screwed up. In my eyes they did everything right.

With the sports it always helped that I had 3 brothers who helped me find my athleticism.

All in all my family is pretty damn solid.

Explain your average school day including bedtime with all of these activities including bed time. Did you do homework on the weekend? Did you party? Were you smashing demonic students?

You obviously had more to work with.

I'm thinking this kid only had good grades and that was it.

Maybe his parent should have donated to the college instead. :ohhh:

Academics always came pretty easily to me. I never put much excessive time in studying when I was high school. I did assignments that needed to get done and when it came time for tests I never really worried much about knowing the material. Just paying attention in class and taking notes seemed to work. That didnt carry over so well into college when I started skipping lectures. I learned the hard way how much tougher college was than high school.

Doing all these things seemed normal to me. If I remember correctly school was like 7am - 3pm ish. Practices went til 5pm ish. Then home to a family dinner. Some nights I did a little bit of school work, some nights I bs'd on the phone w a girl I was crushing on, some nights I was at the nursing home where I volunteered. I don't ever remember feeling exhausted. Even during hockey season when practices and games were late at night I still cruised through. Although the 5am sessions w the skating coach were sometimes rough.

And yes I was social. I went to parties on the weekends, had plenty of friends, was never short on gfs. My parents didnt let me roam as freely at night during the week as some of my friends did but I never felt like I missed out.

That's the thing though. Most people don't realize how much time there is in a day and how much you can actually get done. Take even an adult (minus kids of course). And I distinctly remember having this argument on the old boards w a few posters talking about an average day for. A day is 24 hours, less 8 hours for sleep (which most people don't) less 10 hours for work (which most people don't) even if you take out an hour for commuting. You still have 5 hours left to do other things and get a good night sleep for next day. Obviously things are different when you become a parent but you see what I mean when.

What Ivy did you get into with that? Im not trying to talk trash or anything but those credentials are run of the mill for a good student. That SAT score would have put you at the bottom of entering GT grads back in 2001 if you even got in. You cant get a scholarship to UGA with that.

Are you Latino? If so im sure that played a big part in you getting in. There had to be something else behind the scenes taking place here.

-edit. Oh i see you are Jewish. Hmmmmmmmm

I went to Hebrew school, was bar mitzvahed, attended services on the high holidays etc. Aside from that I was minimally involved w synagogue. After my BM my parents left it up to me to decide how I wanted to express my religious beliefs. I also come from a mixed family so I grew up celebrating Christian holidays, as well.

I don't do much anymore but my daughter had a proper Jewish baby naming, attends nursery school at a synagogue and will grow up the same way I did.

Cornell

I know my SATs weren't outstanding but my ACTs made up the difference.

Again I'm not saying I was extra special. I just don't believe it takes 2 mil to get into a school if you're somewhat qualified and seek out the right help.
