Even if you hate Cousins, the return isn't exactly great.
You'd have to legitimately believe Payne is the next major guard to make a move like this
Cousins is the best big man in the NBA to real decision makers. He's the worst in the NBA to semi-racists and guys who don't know basketball.Cousins actual value to NBA decision makers vs people who post on the web and just look at PPG couldn't be more different.
That's up to the Kings to figure out. I'm not saying I would give up a lot for him, but he's not the first or last malcontent in the league with talent. There are teams with picks and players that need to cash in their chips before they wind up like Phoenix, but they need leadership. What makes you think you're going to get a good return on Cousins? The Kings overvaluing him isn't anyone else's problem to solve.

You'd ultimately be trading Cousins for a player who makes more than him AND ultimately plays WCS's long term spot and a rookie PG. Kanter is what he is and it says a lot when his best use is as a 21 mpg big off the bench. Payne better be a decade long answer to Sacramento's PG woes
