I'm not sure this is as much about points of views as you are making it out to be.
Hospitals are overwhelmed with people sick with covid 19 and nearly 100% of them are unvaccinated.
I'll play this game.
Subjective as this statement is, let's say we accept this as true. This alone should not force anyone to feel morally obligated to be vaccinated against corona. But particularly for young people with no known underlying conditions it wouldn't make sense even if we take your statement for granted. But I'm curious what your considerations are on a sample of questions that are all to some extent relevant, at least as much as the unvaccinated ICU percentage, for deciding what our moral course of action should be:
How many ICUs you think can be financed with $60 billion ?
How many people die every year because the medical and pharmaceutical industries make decisions on what treatment and research options should be prioritized? You think medical professionals deciding at their own discretion who gets an ICU bed and who doesn't would be an unprecedented moral outcome in the medical field?
Can the higher % of unvaccinated ICU patients with COVID be influenced by some other variable, say, bias by doctors who believe unvaccinated patients with symptoms to be in more urgent need of an ICU bed? Do you think there are reliable scientific studies on this question when this unique vaccinated/unvaccinated situation has only recently occurred? Are you, or a medical doctor for that matter, really in a position to answer this question scientifically rather than on a gut feeling based on personal experience? And if you have to admit that it can't be answered scientifically, how do you explain that this type of questions is rarely, if ever, asked in articles on media outlets owned by billionaires? How come they appeal to 'science' when there is no reliable scientific data to address this question?
Do you know the statistics on age and underlying conditions for the people in ICU right now? If you have to look them up first, how come you have to look up that particular information but are readily aware of the 90+% unvaccinated part?
Do you know the (basic) conditions, mechanisms and statistics of virus mutation in respiratory viruses? Do you think virus mutations on a global scale can be prevented by human efforts? If not, why are mainstream media constantly bombarding us with the latest daily 'news' of expected mutations? Did they ever do this for the flu?
Speaking of the flu: are you aware of and do you keep track of who in your family, work and personal relationships has been vaccinated against the flu and who hasn't? Do you know if you can be asymptomatic for the flu and still infect someone? Do you know how many people have died of the flu in the last five years and how many times hospitals have reported being "overwhelmed" because of the flu? Were you ever asked for evidence of being vaccinated against the flu in a public place in such a period? If not, apart from the quantities, what is the moral difference with the current situation?
How many opinions of scientists who
don't think mandatory vaccinations are necessary have you heard? Why do you trust the judgment of the ones who
do think it's necessary more than the ones who don't? What are your criteria for trusting a particular scientist? If you can't think of any scientists who don't recommend mandatory vaccination, how come you are not aware of them when they do exist?
Do you think citizens have an unlimited right to resources (including coercion of others' behavior and bodily integrity contrary to their own preference) in order not to die?
And, lastly (for now), are you afraid to die?
