I figured out the best way to explain the problem and why people are concerned, even with initial small numbers of victims.
AIDS/HIV started with 1 or a few people and look where we are now.
Estimates are that each coronavirus victim infects 2 - 3 others.
Each Wuhan coronavirus patient infects 2 or 3 new people, scientific analyses show
So on Sat it was reported that there were 1400 victims worldwide. Lets say (it doesn't state) that the 2 -3 people is per week, and let's use 3 for dramatic effect.
In that scenario in less than 4 months everyone on Earth would be infected.
Yeah it's not quite that simple, but point being that exponential growth accelerates quickly.
