The idea that this virus started in a Wuhan lab is bullshyt. I bet it 100%.
What is going on is that the Trump administration is doing a misinformation campaign of their own against China since China keeps pushing that the virus started in the US. Trump during one of his pressers was explaining why he called it the Chinese virus was because China was claiming it originated in the US. Basically it was just rhetorical fighting back against China propaganda
"US OFFICIALS HAVE STRONG SUSPICIONS" is how every article on this issue starts. Not "scientists discover" hinting its a government-backed theory, not a scientific one.
This is just part of a propaganda campaign of tit for tat. Don't believe it. There have already been scientific studies, not government speculation, that the disease had biological origins.
The coronavirus did not escape from a lab. Here's how we know. | Live Science
Here is the problem with going tit for tat with China in lying or making up things. When Obama and previous presidents were in office they didn't engage with wild accusations and conspiracy theories pushed by other countries about the US and most of the world didn't believe them when they did. They were just treated as crazy nuts and as liars by the world at large. Because most countries accepted the scientific explanations that explained issues like this.
When you sink to their level you harm your own credibility. I'm sure there are some people who feel "YEAH! GET AT CHINA" regardless of long term consequences because it emotionally feels good. But it is short-sighted and stupid. Let China push their lies. No one was buying them. They don't even make sense given the first outbreak happened in China. Just call them crazy and make the case for why its not possible and leave it at that. People don't buy China's lies.
