This Spanish Flu chart illustrates why we’ll all be inside for Fall and Winter 2020-2021

That second wave is scary and I’m afraid this administration’s fukkery is going to result in pain for the people.

I don’t think they care to be honest...they want people out and about.

Nope. Almost 3,000 deaths unfortunately.

Keeping my eyes on tomorrow’s numbers

There is a backlog of sick who (given how long they have been sick) will probably be or end up in the serious cases.

I think those still need to work their way through the system and will distort death numbers. That doesn't mean the peak hasn't been reached though.

What causes the 2nd wave and why does the winter make it worse?

What causes the 2nd wave and why does the winter make it worse?
During the winter, people spend more time indoors with the windows sealed, so they are more likely to breathe the same air as someone who has the flu and thus contract the virus

Days are shorter during the winter, and lack of sunlight leads to low levels of vitamin D and melatonin, both of which require sunlight for their generation. This compromises our immune systems, which in turn decreases ability to fight the virus

The influenza virus may survive better in colder, drier climates, and therefore be able to infect more people

Lack of quarantine, there was even a parade in Philly where 20000 people attended. The second wave also killed people within hours, bleeding from their nose and eyes, it causes a cytokine reaction in their bodies. The second wave also killed young adults at an alarming rate due to the immune response. I don't think if there's an answer to whether the 2nd wave was a more fatal strain of the virus. Plus back then they didn't have the knowledge we do now.

But we should prepare for a second wave coming this fall and winter. Imagine if history repeated and people in their 20s and 30s died within hours, scary stuff. I much rather be safe.

I don’t think this will happen with the novel coronavirus

The Spanish flu was a different beast. The mortality rate for people in their 20s was very high as well as people 15 and under in addition to the elderly.

However if we don’t have proper planning and preparation for another outbreak more people will die period.

I think that regardless of who wins the results are going to be challenged. And yes to mail in ballots. I don’t see senior citizens going to polls during that and Republicans will need their votes.

this isn’t why they say the second wave may be worse. It’s because, having exhausted so much during the first wave, we may be even more ill equipped to withstand another one. :francis:
