So, I was once at a dinner party where an ethnic cac expressed angst that, while he was 'forced' into umass, I was 'allowed' to attend a certain Ivy, his dream school. I didnt get mad, I've heard this many times, i simply laughed. Cracked up, actually (it was the part of the event where everybody's pleasantly tipsy).

My laughter twinkled over the crowd, and ppl turned to look so they could laugh too. So, crowd watching...

UMass Amherst sees ‘disturbing increase’ in anti-Black racism, administrators say

Racist emails and online messages, as well as a verbal slur, have recently been directed at Black students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, administrators told the UMass community in an email sent Thursday night.

The uptick in racist incidents began with an email sent to Black-centric student groups which included “vile, blatantly racist, and violently offensive” content, Nefertiti Walker, UMass’ chief diversity officer, wrote to the school.

The email was followed by other racist messages sent to student groups through a “contact us” online form used by registered student organizations. A driver also yelled an anti-Black epithet at a group of Black students, Walker said.

“All of these anti-Black racist acts run in stark contrast to who we strive to be, which is a campus where all students are welcomed and feel a strong sense of belonging,” Walker wrote. “We condemn all acts of anti-Black racism and will work to diminish their intent to cause harm to Black students on campus.”

UMass police are working with the school’s technology staff to identify the sender of the emails, Walker said.

The news caps a tumultuous week at the university, which has seen large protests break out over claims of sexual assault at the school’s fraternities, notably Theta Chi.

“This hate has to stop,” one alumnus commented on the UMass Amherst Reddit page. “This isn’t the UMass that I was proud of attending.”

More Africans/Caribbean thank African American and if you took away athletes the numbers drop to 2 or 3 percent. It’s a mix between socioeconomic classes so yes there are black people who do not fit in traditional tropes but no more c00ning than at your other colleges. We have a Malcolm X Center, the DuBois Library and a Defined Residential Community only for students of the African diaspora. It’s called harambee and it’s at the top of a tower. So the white students who lived below thought I to would be funny to put Harambee the gorilla pictures in their windows since they had the Harambee community in their building. Typical UMass racism.
