Nope, the prerequisite for is at SOME point you would had to been great for a period of time or just beastin' & fell off. Kitna has ALWAYS been a below average QB, but not only that he's 41 years old! That sends a bad message signing somebody like him, even IF it's only for insurance...

They didn't sign him to start or expect him to play, but a third QB is a necessity in this situation.

He played well in Romo's absence in 2010 and he knows the system, so there's reasoning behind the signing. I agree it doesn't make sense to sign a guy who has been retired for three years, but it's not like he's going to play anyway. This isn't any worse than having to rely on David Carr or John Skelton potentially.
