Where does it come from? Like does anyone have the science behind it? Why is it assumed the crabs are trying to keep the other from thriving?

Couldn't it be argued they are trying to save each other?

If yall have the actual science let me know.

Have you ever seen crabs in a barrel?

It's pretty much self explanatory if you watch
It's really not considering whats getting ready to happen......

even if you don't consider whats happening, it's still a manner of perspective,

Crab mentality, sometimes referred to as crabs in the bucket (also barrel, basket or pot), is a way of thinking best described by the phrase, "if I can't have it, neither can you."[1] The metaphor refers to a bucket of crabs. Individually, the crabs could easily escape from the bucket, but instead they grab at each other in a useless "king of the hill" competition which prevents any from escaping and ensures their collective demise.[2][3][4][5] The analogy in human behavior is claimed to be that members of a group will attempt to negate or diminish the importance of any member who achieves success beyond the others, out of envy, spite, conspiracy, or competitive feelings, to halt their progress.[6][7][8][9][10]

Huh???

Literally watch a YouTube video with crabs being in a barrel... Seriously just watch

The analogy comes from the fact that they're yanking and pulling each other down to get to the top and get out, where if they were more intelligent like certain other animals they could easily get out by working together

It's not rocket science

theyre not being taken out of the bucket to be eaten

theyre in a bucket alone and never escape because they keep pulling each other back

The Truth
The problem isn't the crabs, it's that someone put them in a fukking barrel in the first place. Now apply that to people, any group of people in close proximity with limited resources and only one viable way to escape...:francis:
shyt happens in life, everyone gets put in something, instead of pointing fingers figure out how to solve the problem.. It's really not that philosophical.

Thing is, if the crabs were more intelligent they could easily get out of the barrel. Basically thinking and working as one

And this doesn't apply to just black people btw. Crab mentality is commonly referenced to the black community but anyone can be a crab ass nikka.. Trying to pull someone else down to get to the top.

That's why I said any group of people. Hell, I've been around professionals in office settings that done that to other coworkers. And I agree the problem should be solved, but that's why its a long standing analogy, because it is happening in 2017, right now, someone is trying to hold someone down. Sadly, it's an eternal condition, the hope is that we begin to realize that we are not crabs and therefore not bound to a basic, instinctual reactions. But convincing someone with a crab mentality that they are not a crab and can escape the bucket is a job within itself. You can tell yourself you're not a crab, you just have to get a way from people with that mentality, you also have to realize that you're in a bucket in the first place and that escape is necessary. When you have the escape mentality, you have to keep that to yourself and just do it. You can't tell everybody your goals and dreams because 95% of the people you're around are against you anyway.
