Smart kid, and a fair response.

(Not related to any current events around these parts but) One thing about that metaphor that I never see discussed is, the crab attempting to escape the bucket can't do it without having other crabs beneath him. He's attempting to free himself off their backs (their collective mass at the bottom). There has to be others also in your precarious position up under you for that escape to even be possible. And equally important, escape isn't possible for everyone. Maybe something to be said of those willing to sacrifice for just one to escape their peril, but also the natural reluctance of being used as a stepping stone when your fate is essentially sealed by doing so.

That sounds like something I should ponder further when I'm blazed after work. Carryon yal

People aren't literally crabs. To have a crab mentality, you need to see the people around you as disposable, even the ones that has more than you. Those kinds of people will do their best to set up their opposition for failure just so they can either blackmail, steal, or simply get rid them. Sometimes it's not always about trying to compete with others, just seeing someone they see as inferior is doing better will make them feel like shyt.

Envy.

Plus, to have a crab mentality, instead of being more mad that you're in a bad environment or how you got inside, they wanna be more mad that someone else is trying to make it out.

Plenty of nikkas in middle class neighborhoods still doing pure clown shyt and acting a fool (I grew up in one). It's not just people in the "hood" being dysfunctional and pulling each other down.
Doesn’t have to be a poor neighborhood. Look at how all these famous 2nd and 3rd level comedians are always shytting on Kevin Hart out of petty jealousy.
