Cracker = Poor white trash?

I've been wondering a lot on what the actual origin for the term "cracker" is and if the present definition has any basis in it (apparently the real meanings been lost); been searching up and found this: http://www.topix.com/forum/afam/TN2Q9VNJHPR9MNNRF
Don't know if the user just made it up but it seems to make sense, especially considering poor whites in Florida call each other crackers like it's nothing. Here's another example: http://english.stackexchange.com/questions/114806/where-does-the-term-cracker-come-from-and-how-disparaging-is-it I wouldn't be surprised if this word was a cover up and turned it into "cracking of the whip" to make the word seem like we're shytting on ourselves throwin' the term around and to make it less hurtful for whites but I guess the truth comes out one way or another. So any thoughts?

cracker does not come from crack of a whip. whips dont make a cracking sound (no one in history describes it as such), nor have their been any slave journals that use the term cracker. cracker became popular usage around 1890 which was well after slavery.

Its what I learned in african american studies. I asked where cracker came from, the professor said. "I dont know, but there are no slave journals, or slaves that use the term", so I decided to research where the first usage of the word as chef slang came from.

Doesnt matter whats in it. Once cracker ass cracker merged to form cac, it became something better then cracker or cracker ass cracker. it became, cac, the new standard for the sins of white culture.
