Goldberg was a huge draw but it took a lot of top guys laying down to get that effect. The gimmick worked though. The thing is Goldberg actually had talent in his prime. He's one of the reasons WCW got big. When Triple K dominated, ratings dropped.

Goldberg also wrestled his ass off even at the expense of hurting the greats unfortunately.Goldberg was a huge draw but it took a lot of top guys laying down to get that effect. The gimmick worked though.

He went over Hogan, Hall, Giant, Raven...ONE top guy laid down for him. It was Hogan. He beat Jerry Flynn and Brad Armstrong 12 times each during the streak. He got over being a unique smashing machine, he got LESS over after winning the title and getting involved in longer matches with closer to top guys more regularly. All people wanted was awesome squashes.

This is the key. I think HHH would still have been a main eventer for sure but I just don't see him being pushed into an executive position like he has now. A some point when HHH demanded too much Vince would've given him the boot if he wasn't his son-in-law.Cornette's probably right, he didnt even cut the smark bait bosses daughter promo I expected. But basically everybody, no matter how successful, gets pushed out by Vince at some point.

Agreed..Idk that he'd be the heir apparent without marrying into the family, but he'd for sure have been a dominant top guy and gone into backstage stuff because he's the most political beast this side of Hogan and was scheming from his first day, kliq'd up, and found himself heavily over pushed to the top spot and title even before any involvement with Stephanie.
HHH went from taking all the heat of the Curtain Call to somehow weaseling his way into sitting in on booking and production meetings by the next year.
Um..nah..DX was hot after they turned face post WM 14. But if anything, when he was gonna get the title, the fans told the world the Rock is the new top star...Summerslam 98.Agreed..
on top of that, let’s not forget that HHH was a breakout star the summer of 98 before the Stephanie thing
Oh yeah the gimmick worked..the black tights, bald head, the streak...fans loved it. No star made that happen. He's a draw. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have meant shyt in 99 and 2000. When you got Cripple H from stars in 2003, he didn't mean shyt anymore. He fell all the way off..then they started prepping for that huge Cena push in 05 that took over Raw.
This guy is still alive?Sometimes it’s still charming to see people who think the play fighting characters are real personas
After he was already super over. The biggest names he beat before winning the title off of Hogan were Raven and probably Regal. Hall on the same night as Hogan. Even after winning the title, the rare times he was on TV was still squashing low card guys to full on jobbers. Who he beat had literally nothing to do with Goldberg getting over, it was HOW he beat people, particularly demolishing jobbers.
