Off topic, but as a straight man who doesn't dabble in casual immorality or care strongly about politics, I think I would've liked to have started out in their country. (This would obviously be different if I were female, gay, or possessed vices)
In my engineering program, I met a few Saudis who were sent here by their govt to study. Tuition and room and board were covered and they were guaranteed globally competitive jobs in the oil industry once they returned. Beyond free education, the dude sitting next to me in elecEng-102 mentioned that their govt was giving out universal healthcare, as well as universal basic income as well.
From what he was describing , Saudi Arabia seemed more like Sweden with brown people than a medieval, backwards society.
Of course, lemme note one more time that the situation is drastically different if you are a woman or gay or alcoholic or a gambler etc. Also worth noting that I'm not civically engaged so the voting thing wouldn't phase me. I'm more of a, "
I don't care who is in charge as long as the trains run on time" kinda guy
